Article Alert: Ned Kelly's Armour Travels to the National Museum

From google alerts..

The State Library of Victoria's news blog has a posting called "Ned Kelly's Armour Travels to the National Museum" (for the Not Just Ned exhibition opening March 17). There is a really cool photo of the helmet being put in a traveling case and the text says that the armour will be back on display at the Library in mid-August. I had read elsewhere - http://www.irlfunds.org/australia/news_3_11.asp  - that the exhibition would be going to the National Museum in Dublin, Ireland for 6 months once it was done in Canberra (it ends in Canberra at the end of July). [NOTE: The exhibition's visit to Dublin has now been cancelled due to budget constraints per an article linked in the comments dated March 23, 2011...but who knows what may occur between now and then? will keep you posted!] The first article confirms my thoughts that not all of the armour would be going overseas with the exhibition. I remember when they had the Ned at the Dead exhibition in Dublin a while back and they only had acquired Dan's helmet for that after much negotiating. No way would the 4 original suits be allowed to leave Australian shores all at the same time! It remains to be seen what will be going. Stay tuned!

  1. Thanks for the information about the possible Dublin part of the 'tour' - will be keeping a beady eye on that. But please let me/us know if you hear anymore (I am sure you will!) Will definitely be going to this whatever parts of the Kelly exhibition is travelling this way.
Did you get to the Ned at the Dead Sharon? Was a great little exhibition, if rather a shambles of organisation!

  2. Hi, Windsor, I will also keep a beady eye on any developments re the "Not Just Ned" exhibition heading there. Will pass along any information I find. :)

No, I unfortunately did not get to see the Ned at the Dead exhibition. Seems I have to live vicariously through others when it comes to such things as I am in the USA and have never been able to travel overseas. I am thankful for everyone that shares photos and relates their Ned type adventures, though. Is the next best thing to being there!
